Dear Friend of Disability Rights:

I need your help! I have volunteered to join in the ADAPT FUN*RUN for Disability Rights which supports Center for Disability Rights - Rochester, NY work to make community living a reality for everyone.

For those of you who don't know ADAPT, we have led the fight for Disability Rights in the United States for the last 40+ years. We began in 1978 when 19 disabled activists stopped traffic in Denver Colorado by laying in front of a city bus to protest mass transit inaccessibility. We were behind the Capitol Crawl in which hundreds of ADAPTers literally crawled up the steps of the US Capitol to push Congress to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 2017 in what became known as the "Summer of ADAPT" we led the fight to save the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, carrying out on average three actions a day for three months across thirty states to save the healthcare system. Our work continues today with the fight to pass the Disability Integration Act. This vital civil rights legislation will ensure people's right to live in the community rather than be forced into institutions just so we can receive services and supports.

ADAPT is a one hundred percent volunteer organization, but our work is not without cost. The logistics of getting of activists travelling (in many cases across the country), hotel costs and court fines and lawyer fees all add up. We rely on donations to cover much of these costs. And that is where you can help by sponsoring me in the ADAPT fun run!

I will walk my way around Upper D Park - Area 14 - "C" St. SW and South Capitol St. on 05/19/2019 until I complete 25 or more laps. I would appreciate your support as a sponsor. Please select the sponsor button above and make a generous pledge for each lap, or a flat donation. Remember, your donation is tax deductible.

Sincerely,
Gregg Beratan
